By Zoila Palma: During today’s budget presentation, Minister of Agriculture Rodwell Ferguson explained that Belize’s banana industry has shown strong recovery, with export earnings increasing in 2025.
“Banana production and exports were up, with exports reaching $91.0 million, up from $82.4 million in 2024,” Ferguson said.
The recovery follows support measures implemented after pandemic-related disruptions. “Thanks to a $5 million revolving loan facility that is managed through the DFC, banana farmers have recovered from the devastating post-Covid floods,” he noted.
Ferguson also pointed to improved market conditions. “Farmers are getting a better price for their bananas and Fyffes has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Belize,” he said.
“2026 is looking to be the best year revenue-wise for our banana industry,” Minister Ferguson said.
