By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 21-year-old bakery delivery man found himself in legal trouble after being caught smoking cannabis in public. Aaron Jonathan Patrick Castillo, a resident of West Canal in Belize City, appeared unrepresented before the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, where he faced a single charge of smoking cannabis in public.
The incident occurred on Wednesday on Central American Boulevard, where Castillo was found smoking cannabis while fixing his motorcycle after work. When questioned by the magistrate, Castillo admitted to the offense, explaining that he didn’t realize he was doing anything wrong since he had seen others doing the same.
Castillo pleaded guilty and was fined $150 plus a $5.00 court cost. He has been given until September 30, 2024, to pay the fine or face two months of imprisonment.
