By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A night that began with drinks between coworkers ended with one of them beaten, choked, and robbed on a Trial Farm Village street, and police are now searching for the man responsible.
According to the Belize Police Department, a 29-year-old baker of Woodpecker Street, Trial Farm Village, Orange Walk District, reported that on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m., he was walking along Cardinal Street when he was approached from behind by a coworker he has known for the past year and a half.
The complainant told police the man grabbed his cellular phone from his hand, opened its casing, and took a $20 bill he kept inside. The attack then turned violent. According to the report, the man punched him twice below his left eye, causing pain, then seized him by the neck with both hands and began to choke him. It took the intervention of bystanders to free the complainant, after which the attacker left the area.
The complainant told police he knew his attacker well, noting they had been drinking together earlier that evening and that the street lighting gave him a clear view of the man throughout the encounter.
Police issued medico-legal forms, and a doctor certified the complainant’s injuries as grievous harm, reflecting the seriousness of the attack.
Officers made checks for the man identified by the complainant, but those efforts proved fruitless, and he remains at large. No one has been detained or charged, and the identity of the suspect is being withheld pending charges.
