By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man who failed to appear in court for two separate cases is tonight behind bars after his surety revoked her bail, claiming he threatened her.
He is 34-year-old Jeffery Fitzgerald McDougall, a technician of King Street, who had previously been granted the rare privilege of self-bail. After skipping court on September 11, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.
Brought before Senior Magistrate on Monday, McDougall claimed a series of unfortunate events kept him from court, but his excuse was rejected. His self-bail was revoked and replaced with a $1,000 bail requiring a surety.
Moments later, his surety in a sexual assault case, informed the court she wished to withdraw, stating that when McDougall repeatedly missed court, she went looking for him and he allegedly threatened her.
With no one left willing to stand as surety, McDougall was remanded to the Belize Central Prison this afternoon. His cases—both involving the same complainant—are set to return to court on November 13, 2025.
