By Breaking Belize News Staff: Belize City Council employee Travis Flowers, who has been on remand for attempted murder, will have to wait until Friday, March 28, 2025, for his bail application to be heard. The delay comes after Crown prosecutor Alifah Elrington requested to be recused from the case, citing familiarity with both Flowers and the alleged victim, Calvin Cumberbatch.

Justice Nigel Pilgrim granted the adjournment, deferring the matter until the original prosecutor, Dercene Staine, is available. Flowers, a 45-year-old Belize City Council Enforcement Officer with 17 years of service, has been in custody since his arraignment on March 11, 2025.

His attorney, Leeroy Banner, argued in an affidavit that Flowers has no prior convictions and was acting in self-defense. According to the defense, Cumberbatch allegedly attacked Flowers first, leading to a struggle over a firearm. Flowers claims he fired the shot in fear for his life.

Flowers remains on remand at the Belize Central Prison until his next bail hearing. His case is set for full trial on May 13, 2025.
