By Breaking Belize News Staff: Attorney-at-law Orson “O.J.” Elrington, 43, will stand trial for the charge of rape early next year following the conclusion of his case management conference (CMC) held at the High Court before Justice Nigel Pilgrim.
The court has set Elrington’s trial date for February 23 to March 6, 2026, and the matter will proceed as a trial by judge alone.
The allegation dates back to January 12, 2023, when a woman accused Elrington of raping her after meeting him at a nightclub and later visiting his home along with another woman.
Elrington is represented by his cousin, attorney-at-law Alifah Elrington, and his father, veteran attorney Hubert Elrington. Representing the Crown are Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Cheryl-Lynn Vidal and Crown Counsel Maria Nembhard-Santana.
Elrington remains out on bail of $8,000, granted by the Belize City Magistrate’s Court in March 2023, under strict conditions. He must report weekly to the Belama Police Station, surrender his travel documents, refrain from leaving the country without court permission, and keep at least 25 feet away from the alleged victim.
The upcoming trial will mark nearly three years since the accusation was first made against the prominent attorney.
