By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-two-year-old Charleston Green walked free of an attempted murder charge on Wednesday after the prosecution entered a nolle prosequi at the start of his High Court trial.
Green, a Belize City construction worker, had been scheduled to stand trial before Justice Candace Nanton. However, the case came to an abrupt end when the alleged victim, Dixon Ramirez, failed to appear in court to testify. As a result, the Director of Public Prosecutions entered a nolle prosequi, effectively discontinuing the attempted murder charge.
Green was initially charged in August 2022 following a shooting incident in which Ramirez was injured. Police reported that after the shooting, officers intercepted the alleged gunman—identified as Green—and came under fire during the encounter.
In connection with that incident, Green was charged with one count of attempted murder, one count of grievous harm, and one count of use of deadly means of harm upon Dixon Ramirez. He was also charged with three counts of aggravated assault upon three police officers, one count of keeping a firearm without a gun license, and one count of keeping ammunition without a gun license.
Despite being cleared of the attempted murder charge in the High Court, Green was escorted back to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, as he is currently serving a three-year sentence imposed in 2025 for firearm, ammunition, and aggravated assault offenses stemming from the same incident.
He was sentenced to one year for the ammunition offense and one year each for the three counts of aggravated assault for firing at police officers. Those sentences were ordered to run concurrently, resulting in a total term of three years’ imprisonment.
The firearm, ammunition, and aggravated assault convictions arose from the same events surrounding the shooting of Ramirez. After the incident, police say Green fled but was later apprehended in possession of a loaded firearm.
Green’s earliest estimated release date is July 2027.
