By Horace Palacio: The Institute of Archaeology (IA) has announced the suspension of all water-related tour activities at the Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave due to elevated river levels. The advisory was issued early this morning, January 8, 2025, at 6:10 am.

This precautionary measure is taken to ensure the safety of visitors and tour operators amid rising water levels. While ATM Cave activities are temporarily suspended, all other archaeological reserves across Belize remain open for visitation. Tour operators and guides have been advised to exercise heightened caution and remain alert during all activities.

The IA is actively monitoring the situation at the ATM Cave and assures the public that updates will be provided as necessary. Visitors planning tours are encouraged to stay informed through official updates to ensure their safety.
