As Women’s Month begins fisherman granted $2,000 bail after allegedly punching woman so hard he knocked a tooth out

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 22-year-old Belize City fisherman is out on bail after being charged with grievous harm following a domestic dispute that reportedly left a woman without one of her teeth.

Felipe Sanchez, a resident of Rivero Street, appeared unrepresented on Tuesday morning in Court #3 before a Magistrate, where he was read a single charge of grievous harm.

Police allege that on February 2, 2026, Sanchez caused injury to a 33-year-old woman during a domestic altercation. According to the complainant, a waitress, the incident occurred at about 5:00 a.m. when an argument broke out between her and Sanchez. She reported to police that during the dispute Sanchez punched her in the mouth, causing one of her teeth to fall out.

Following his arraignment, Sanchez was granted bail in the sum of $2,000 plus one surety.

As part of his bail conditions, Sanchez must not interfere with the virtual complainant, must stay at least 100 yards away from her, and is required to report to the Raccoon Street Police Station every Wednesday between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Sanchez is scheduled to return to court on May 4, 2026.
