Arthur Wade remanded for allegedly pulling shotgun on man

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Thirty-two-year-old Arthur Wade of Rayburn Ridge is on remand at the Belize Central Prison after being arraigned on Thursday afternoon in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm.

Wade is accused of pulling a shotgun on a man during an incident said to have occurred on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.

Unrepresented, Wade appeared before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2, where he was read a single charge of aggravated assault with a firearm, to wit, a shotgun. He pleaded not guilty, stating, “No, I did not assault him.”

Due to the nature of the offense, the Senior Magistrate informed Wade that the lower court has no jurisdiction to grant bail for such an offense. He was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until April 17, 2026.

Before being escorted from the courtroom, Wade asked permission to address the court. He claimed the allegations were fabricated and insisted that police failed to properly investigate the matter.

Wade told the court he is a licensed firearm holder with a clean record and has never been in trouble with the law. He further stated that the virtual complainant was not present in court and alleged that he had been helping the complainant on the morning in question by giving him food and a cigarette.

According to Wade, the complainant frequently eats at his home. He maintained that while he does own a licensed firearm, it was at home at the time of the alleged incident. He admitted to speaking with the complainant but said it occurred in the presence of others and that he had no gun with him.

“I will sue the Belize Police Department because this is wrongdoings. I was giving the police the evidence that I never did the crime. A witness was there when the incident occurred,” Wade told the court.

He added that the alleged incident happened in front of several persons who could verify his account.

The arraignment also stirred painful memories for Wade, who told the court that he previously spent over three years behind bars due to what he described as false allegations. He said he also has a brother currently serving a prison sentence.

Wade remains on remand pending his next court date in April.
