Arrest made in murder of Raw Spa owner in Bullet Tree Falls after aborted escape to Guatemala

By Aaron Humes: Police have officially arrested and charged 25-year-old Gian Eldred Waight, a construction worker, in connection with the brutal murder of local business owner Marty Ann Thorne, who was killed on November 9.

Thorne, known for her ownership of Raw Spa Cabanas, was found stabbed to death, shocking the close-knit community. Police identified Waight as a person of interest early in the investigation, but he evaded capture by fleeing the country shortly after the incident.

The long arm of the law caught up with Waight in Guatemala, explained Assistant Superintendent Stacy Smith: “As a consequence of liaising with Interpol counterparts in Guatemala, Waight was detained. While seeking to board a plane in Guatemala City that was en route to El Salvador, he was handed over to police, and he has since been charged.”

While initial investigations indicated that Waight was acquainted with Thorne, police have yet to determine a motive for the tragic crime. The case continues to unfold as investigators work to piece together the circumstances surrounding Thorne’s death and the nature of her relationship with the suspect.
