By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police are searching for three suspects following an armed robbery at Midtown Restaurant in Belize City during which a security guard was robbed of his licensed 9mm pistol.
Police say the robbery occurred on Friday when a vehicle arrived at the establishment carrying three men armed with firearms.
According to investigators, one of the men struggled with the security guard and took his 9mm pistol, while another entered the restaurant and stole a bag containing documents.
The suspects then fled the area.
Police have since recovered and impounded the vehicle believed to have been used in the robbery. Investigators said Monday that they were checking with the Transport Department to establish its registered owner.
No stolen property had been recovered as of the briefing.
Police have also obtained surveillance footage from the establishment and are reviewing it as part of the investigation.
Midtown Restaurant has been targeted in armed robberies before. In March 2025, a Harpy’s Security guard stationed at the restaurant was robbed of a Glock 9mm pistol. One man was later charged in connection with that incident.
The restaurant was also the scene of a high-profile armed robbery in 2018, when two men entered posing as customers before stealing cash, jewelry and other valuables valued at almost $25,000.
