By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Argentine goalkeeper Nahuel Paz, who helped Verdes FC secure their eighth national championship on December 13, has completed a move to Deportivo San Benito, the Guatemalan First Division club announced on December 22 and formally presented on December 26.

Paz, 25, first played in Belize with Port Loyola FC in Belize City before transferring west to Verdes FC in Benque Viejo del Carmen. With Verdes, he became an important part of the club’s goalkeeping unit. Though he served as the backup to veteran Woodrow West, he featured in numerous league matches and stepped in as the starting goalkeeper during key moments of the club’s championship run. He also guarded the posts in Verdes’ international outings, including their CONCACAF matches leading into the 2025–2026 Opening Championship.

San Benito introduced him with a strong message of confidence, declaring on December 22 that “security, reflexes, and character arrive between the posts to defend our colours.” The club welcomed him as part of their defensive rebuild, adding: “Welcome to the Green Fury, Nahuel!”

Four days later, during his official presentation, the Guatemalan side expanded on their expectations for the Argentine shot‑stopper. “Deportivo San Benito FC officially welcomes Nahuel Paz, a goalkeeper who joins our institution to defend the verdiblanco goal with character, hierarchy, and commitment,” the club said. They emphasized his maturity and presence, noting that “his experience, discipline, and leadership under the posts strengthen our sporting project and the club’s vision for growth.”

For Verdes, Paz’s departure closes a chapter in which he proved dependable whenever called upon. For San Benito, his arrival represents a significant reinforcement as they continue shaping a competitive squad for Guatemala’s demanding First Division with their ultimate goal being the Guatemala Premier League (Liga Mayor).

Paz now begins a new stage of his career across the border, with San Benito wishing him a future “full of great saves, victories, and fulfilled objectives.”

Paz joins fellow Verdes champion Christian Ramírez, who also signed with San Benito as part of the club’s December transfer push.
