The Attorney General’s Ministry is pleased to announce the appointment by the Judicial and Legal Services Commission of Ms. Samantha Matute as the Deputy Solicitor General of Belize, with effect December 15, 2025.

Ms. Matute’s appointment signals the confidence of the Commission in her and an affirmation of the exemplary work of Ms. Matute over the years as a public officer.

Ms. Matute first entered the public service in January 2006 as a Customs Officer. She later read for law at the University of Guyana, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws with Distinction. She thereafter went on to the Norman Manley Law School, where she completed her Certificate of Legal Education.

Upon resumption of duties in the service, she served as the Deputy Registrar at the Belize Companies and Corporate Affairs Registry from September 2012 to September 2014 and was then transferred to the Litigation Unit in the Attorney General’s Ministry in September 2014.

Ms. Matute has the impressive record of appearing in over 40 Court of Appeal cases representing the Government of Belize, either as lead or instructing counsel. These span all areas of law, from land matters to complex constitutional matters.

She also has the distinction of appearing in most Government appeals to the Caribbean Court of Justice (the “CCJ”) since 2015 either as lead or instructing counsel, and has appeared in all matters filed in the Original Jurisdiction of the CCJ since her time at the Ministry.

The Government of Belize congratulates Ms. Matute and her family on her well-deserved appointment.
