By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 28-year-old Belize City construction worker has been remanded to prison after police allegedly discovered two live 9mm rounds of ammunition and a Stanley cutter inside an SUV that crashed during a police pursuit early Friday morning.
Antwone Alburn Rivero appeared unrepresented before a magistrate in Belize City on Monday, October 26, where he was charged with keeping ammunition without a gun licence and going equipped to commit burglary or theft.
According to court reports, the incident unfolded around 1:45 a.m. on October 23, when police received information to intercept a black Nissan Rogue SUV bearing licence plate BZ-85381.
Officers subsequently encountered the vehicle after it reportedly crashed into a fence near the intersection of Kelly and Wilson Streets. Two men allegedly fled into a nearby yard but were apprehended following a police chase that ended on Cran Street.
The suspects were identified as Rivero and 25-year-old Patrick Kerr.
A search of the SUV reportedly uncovered a yellow Stanley cutter, several pairs of slippers, clothing and a schoolbag containing documents linked to Kerr. Officers also discovered two live 9mm S&B rounds of ammunition beneath the front passenger seat.
During his arraignment, Rivero initially requested a sentencing indication, explaining that he had a young child and that the child’s mother was recovering from a Caesarean section.
However, after learning that the offences could carry imprisonment, Rivero entered a plea of not guilty.
He was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until December 28, 2026.
Meanwhile, Kerr’s arraignment was postponed because he remains hospitalized at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for an injury to his hand.
