By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man was convicted and fined after pleading guilty to possession of a utensil used for smoking a controlled drug.

Anthony Williams, 40, an unemployed resident of Hibiscus Street, appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Neeshad Mohammed in Court #7, where he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Police say that on Monday, May 18, 2026, Williams was in the Taylor’s Alley area when he was caught trying to dispose of a black and silver metal pipe believed to be used for smoking drugs.

In mitigation, Williams asked the court for leniency and requested that a fine be imposed instead of a custodial sentence. He apologized for his actions and told the court he would not do it again.

Magistrate Mohammed imposed a non-custodial sentence, fining Williams $200 plus $5 cost of court, which he must pay by July 24, 2026. In default of payment, he will serve one month in prison.

Police were conducting foot patrol on Taylor’s Alley when and officer observed Williams sitting on a sofa in a yard. Police say that when Williams was informed that a search would be conducted on him, he began acting suspiciously and threw an object to the ground.

The officer later retrieved the object and found it to be a metal pipe with a burnt end. Williams was then taken to the police station, where he was charged.
