By Breaking Belize News Staff: Former Gales Point Manatee resident, Anthony Myers, will remain behind bars after a magistrate once again denied his application for bail at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Myers, now a resident of the Port Loyola area and an employee of the Belize City Council, has been on remand at the Belize Central Prison since August following an alleged gunplay incident. He is accused of aggravated assault with a firearm upon a woman, reportedly threatening her with a deadly weapon and causing her severe emotional trauma.

During the hearing, attorney Ian Gray argued that Myers should be granted bail, citing that he is a family man, the sole breadwinner for his household, and wishes to retain his employment. However, after reviewing the facts of the case, the sitting Magistrate ruled that the alleged actions had traumatized the victim, and therefore bail could not be granted at this time.

Myers had previously been denied bail at his August 4 arraignment, when the court determined that the firearm-related nature of the charge warranted his continued detention. He has since pleaded not guilty and remains on remand at the Kolbe Foundation awaiting further court proceedings.
