By Breaking Belize News Staff: On Tuesday morning, 26-year-old Andre Arthurs appeared before Chief Magistrate Jayani Wegodapola in Court #1, where he was read a single charge of murder. Arthurs, who was unrepresented in court, is accused of killing 33-year-old Mark Usher Jr. on the night of Saturday, March 8, 2025, in the Fabers Road area of Belize City.
During the court proceedings, Arthurs was only asked if he understood the charge, as no plea was taken due to the severity of the offense. Additionally, the Chief Magistrate informed him that bail could not be granted. He was subsequently remanded to the Belize Central Prison until May 13, 2025.
According to police reports, the deadly shooting occurred as Usher was arriving home on Fabers Road. As he was parking his vehicle, an assailant riding past on a bicycle opened fire. Authorities allege that Arthurs was the gunman responsible for the attack. Despite being rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, Usher succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment.
Following an intense police investigation, Arthurs was arrested and formally charged with Usher’s murder.
