By Breaking Belize News Staff: The murder trial of Andre Arthurs began on Monday in the High Court before Justice Nigel Pilgrim.
Arthurs is accused of gunning down 33-year-old Mark Usher Jr. in the Fabers Road area of Belize City.
The Crown, represented by Prosecutor Kirk Brown, has so far called five witnesses to the stand. Nine agreed statements were also read into evidence without challenge from the defense.
The Crown alleges that Arthurs murdered Usher during a shooting incident on Monday, March 8, 2025. According to police, Usher was arriving home on Fabers Road and was parking his vehicle when a person riding past on a bicycle fired a shot at him.
Usher was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries despite receiving medical treatment.
Police say that at the end of their investigation, Arthurs was identified as the alleged shooter.
Arthurs is being represented by attorney Simeon Sampson.
Justice Pilgrim has invited both the Crown and the defense to file oral submissions on or before May 30, 2026. The matter is set to resume in open court on June 5, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the High Court.
