By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On September 3, 2024, police responded to a home invasion on Chiquibul Road in Cayo.
American retiree Mary Ann Baker,75, told police that around 6:30 am her husband Ralph Pilley,74, left home to ride his bike.
Baker was lying down when she heard someone knock at the front door.
Baker thought it was a worker of a company that had been working there but when she opened the door, she saw a man wearing a ski mask.
The culprit pointed a gun at Baker and forced himself inside the home.
Two more masked men followed all armed with guns.
Baker says she attempted to grab one of the guns and the culprit hit her with the gun to her head.
The culprits then taped her hands, ransacked the home, and left.
Shortly after, her husband arrived home and took her to the hospital.
The thieves stole a wooden jewelry box containing an assortment of gold jewelry valued at $7000 US, a wallet with credit cards, cash, a Smith and Wesson SD9 VE 9mm pistol with serial number FEB6534 with one magazine containing 15 live rounds valued at $3,000.00.
Authorities are investigating.
