By Breaking Belize News Staff: An American national is spending his first night at the Belize Central Prison after pleading guilty to entering the country illegally last month but not by air, by sea.
Rodney Booher Lee Jr., a 49-year-old mechanic from Desert Rose Lane in Menifee, California, was apprehended in Belize over the weekend and handed over to Ladyville Police. Authorities say he entered the country unlawfully via a vessel through the Caribbean Sea near San Pedro Town on March 15, 2025.
Appearing unrepresented in Court #3 this afternoon, Lee Jr. was charged with “deemed prohibited” under Belize’s immigration laws. He quickly pleaded guilty to the charge.
The magistrate fined him $1,000 BZD plus $5 in court costs, which he paid immediately. Had he failed to do so, he would have faced three months in prison. Nonetheless, Lee Jr. was remanded to Belize Central Prison pending his repatriation to the United States. A specific repatriation date has not yet been set.
The Belize Immigration Department successfully applied for an official removal order, which was granted by the court.
