By Zoila Palma: The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continues on their mass deportations plan.
A document circulating social media last week showed that 899 Belizeans living in the U.S. would be deported.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Francis Fonseca told 7News Belize that based on reports, ICE has 96 Belizeans in custody.
“Those are people who have been arrested by ICE. They have been in custody, 96 in custody. And of course there are about 891 Belizeans who are what they call non-detainees who are people who have been given orders of removal but did not show up back at court or that type of thing so, they don’t have them in custody but they’re somewhere out in the United States, people that they are actively looking for,” Fonseca said.
Minister Fonseca said that Belize is working with the U.S. Government on bringing back Belizean nationals home in a dignified manner.
