By Breaking Belize News Staff: An interdicted police officer accused of swindling money from three persons through online deception has walked free from those charges after a Magistrate refused the prosecution’s request for another adjournment.

Thirty-one-year-old Desmond Patrick Gordon of Blackman Eddy Village appeared in Court #3 on Thursday, where the prosecution sought additional time in the matter. However, the sitting Magistrate ruled that the time limit for disclosure had already passed and declined to grant another adjournment. The three counts of obtaining property by deception were subsequently struck out.

Despite being freed of those charges, Gordon remains behind bars at the Belize Central Prison due to other pending matters.

Police alleged that Gordon deceived three separate victims on different occasions in October 2025. The allegations stated that on October 3, 2025, Gordon dishonestly obtained $900 from a man. It was further alleged that on October 8, 2025, he obtained another $900 from a woman, and on October 28, 2025, he allegedly obtained $200 from another woman.

Gordon had previously been granted bail in the sum of $4,000 plus two sureties of $2,000 each, but remained incarcerated because of his other outstanding cases.

One of the cases involved a 43-year-old postal clerk, who reported to police on October 29, 2025, that she had been swindled after attempting to purchase a refrigerator through Facebook Marketplace.

According to police, the woman said she saw a grey Magic refrigerator listed for $400 under the Facebook account “Jenny, Jenny.” After making contact with the seller, she agreed to pay half the cost upfront and the remaining balance upon delivery.

The woman told investigators that she later deposited $200 into a Belize Bank account in the name of Desmond Patrick Gordon and sent proof of payment to the seller. She alleged that although Gordon later confirmed receiving the money, the refrigerator was never delivered and her money was never refunded.

No details were disclosed in court regarding the circumstances surrounding the other two alleged deception cases.

After leaving Court #3 and being escorted back to prison, Gordon reportedly appeared pleased after the three charges against him were struck out.
