By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man accused of entering a woman’s home and allegedly lifting her dress as she slept on her sofa has been granted bail following his arraignment on a charge of burglary with intent to rape.
Steve Ferrell, 26, also known as “Dina,” a construction worker, appeared limping in Belize City’s Magistrate Court #5 on Tuesday morning before Magistrate Ludlow Blackyear. He was unrepresented in court and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
According to police, the incident occurred on the afternoon of Sunday, May 25, 2025. The 32-year-old victim, a cook, told police she had dozed off on her sofa with the front door open for ventilation while her 10-year-old daughter played nearby. She said she awoke to the sensation of someone lifting her dress and saw Ferrell—whom she recognized as a long-time family friend—standing over her, partially exposed.
She screamed, prompting Ferrell to allegedly curse at her before fleeing through the front door. The following day, Ferrell reportedly turned himself in at the Raccoon Street Police Station, where he was arrested and charged.
Bail was set at $4,000 plus two sureties of $2,000 each. As part of his bail conditions, Ferrell is prohibited from contacting the victim or her family, must remain at least 100 feet away from her, avoid interfering with prosecution witnesses, and report weekly to the Raccoon Street Police Station starting Friday, May 30.
Ferrell’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 22, 2025.
