By Breaking Belize News Staff: Hilberto Ramos, 26, a Ladyville resident, has been remanded to prison after being accused of stealing three car batteries and being unable to settle an outstanding $30 fine owed to the court.

Ramos appeared in court unrepresented on Friday and pleaded not guilty to theft. He claims he was asked by someone to retrieve the batteries and didn’t know they were stolen. The total values of the batteries was estimated at $1,940.

Ramos was granted bail of $5,000 plus two signed sureties. He was also instructed to settle an old fine owed to the court of $30 before he could go but he failed to do so and was remanded to prison until June 28.
