Alleged breast grabber remanded to prison; Woman reports that ‘Sugah’ tore open her shirt, grabbed both breasts and tried to trip her down

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 44-year-old linesman from Mahogany Heights Village is currently on remand at the Belize Central Prison after being arraigned on a sexual assault charge in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.

Sheldon Lewis, also known as “Sugah,” appeared before Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison in Court #6 on Monday morning. Lewis pleaded not guilty with an explanation. Despite his pleas for bail—stating, “I dah wah working man. I am innocent. I should be working at this time”—Senior Magistrate Dennison denied bail and remanded him into custody in the first instance. The court opted to err on the side of caution after noting that the case files did not explicitly state the age of the victim, leaving open the possibility that the complainant could be a minor.

According to police reports, the incident occurred shortly after midnight on Monday, July 20, 2026. The victim reported walking home around 12:15 a.m. when an acquaintance she identified as “Sugah” grabbed her by the shoulder area. During the struggle, her blue button-up shirt tore open exposing her breasts, and the assailant grabbed both of her breasts while attempting to trip her to the ground. The victim managed to break free, escape to a friend’s house, and seek assistance from the police.

Lewis was detained at around 12:44 a.m. that same morning at the Mahogany Heights Police Station for a separate, unrelated incident. While in custody—wearing a grey T-shirt with blue sleeves bearing the words “Good Vibes”—he was visually identified by the victim as the man who had attacked her near the park.

Police subsequently recorded a statement from the complainant and formally charged Lewis with sexual assault.

Sheldon Lewis is scheduled to return to court for his next hearing on August 22, 2026.
