By Breaking Belize News Staff: The murder trial against 20-year-old Ladyville resident Alford Curtis Bevans commenced on Friday in the High Court before Nigel Pilgrim.
Bevans is accused of the murder of 21-year-old Freddy Edwardo Chicas, which is alleged to have occurred on March 5, 2023, on John Smith Road along the George Price Highway. Bevans appeared in court with his attorney as the trial officially got underway.
The prosecution is being led by Portia Staine-Ferguson from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, while Bevans is represented by attorney Norman Moore.
According to the facts of the case, Chicas, a resident of the West Lake community in the Belize District, was reported missing on Thursday, March 9, 2023, after he was last seen on the morning of Sunday, March 5, 2023. His body was discovered the following day, Friday, March 10, 2023, in an area opposite the West Lake community, on the same side of the road as the Belize Electricity Limited substation.
Bevans, who was 18 years old at the time, was charged with murder approximately one week after Chicas’ body was found.
