Alexis Mendoza’s recent work (2020-2023) is presently on view through July 2024 at the lobby of One Five One (151 West 42nd Street), a Durst Organization building recognized as the U.S.’s first “green skyscraper.”

Cuban-born Bronxite Alexis Mendoza is an interdisciplinary artist, independent curator, and author. For many years Alexis Mendoza have been working and exploring Black Painting, the style and the term were established in Cuba in the 1950’s by Guido Llinas a prominent Cuban abstract painter. Metaphorically, Black Painting is based on the overlapping and the transition of colors where black is not necessarily the predominant color but rather [the emphasis is on] the meaning of colors used in Afro-Cuban practices and rituals. Mr. Mendoza exhibited his artworks in museums and galleries around the world in countries such as: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, England, France, Germany, Mexico, Netherlands, Peru, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, and the United States. His works are part of public and private collections in Latin America, Europe and the United States. Alexis Mendoza lives and works in New York City.
