By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize City Council has announced the temporary closure of two major downtown streets—Albert Street and Regent Street—on Sunday, September 21, to facilitate the Independence Day ‘21st Belize City Bash’.
According to the Belize City Council notice, both streets will be closed to vehicular traffic starting at 6:00 am. The closure will extend from the Swing Bridge to Prince Street, encompassing a central stretch of the city’s historic commercial district.
The street closure aims to provide a safe and festive environment for the 21st Belize City Bash, which is expected to draw large crowds for cultural performances, food vendors, and community activities. Among the featured performers are Kenney Gladden and the New Creation Band, who will headline the celebration with live music and entertainment.
The event is part of the broader Independence Day celebrations taking place across the country and is supported by the Belize City Council, the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH), and the National Celebrations Commission, under the national theme “BZ@44 – Stronger Together, Rising Forever.”
Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes and expect increased pedestrian activity in the downtown area. The Belize City Council has apologized for any inconvenience caused and emphasized its commitment to public safety and community engagement.
The closure map released by the Council highlights the affected zones and surrounding landmarks, including Battlefield Park, helping residents and visitors navigate the area during the festivities.
The Belize City Bash continues to be a vibrant annual Imdependence Day bram, and the temporary street closure reflects the city’s efforts to support safe, inclusive celebrations.
