By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 30-year-old Ladyville resident is tonight behind bars after being arraigned in connection with the weekend shooting and stabbing of fellow villager Lionel Nigel Logan, who remains in critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
The accused, Akeem Ferguson, of Ladyville Village, was escorted by Ladyville police personnel to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Coney Drive shortly after 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
Around 10:00 a.m., Ferguson was taken before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2, where he was formally read three indictable charges: attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and dangerous harm committed against Logan.
The incident occurred on Saturday, April 11, 2026, on Henry Street in Ladyville Village, a dirt road behind Delmart Hardware Store on Perez Road.
According to police, at approximately 9:05 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area. Upon arrival at a nearby residence, Ladyville CIB and uniformed personnel found Logan lying on an open cement verandah with an apparent gunshot wound as well as a stab wound to his lower back.
Initial investigations revealed that Logan had been walking along Henry Street around 9:00 p.m. when he was approached by two men, leading to an altercation. During the confrontation, one of the men allegedly stabbed Logan in the lower back and then fired a single shot, injuring him. The two suspects then fled the scene.
Police said that while at the scene, Logan identified his alleged attacker, reportedly telling officers the name “Akeem Ferguson.”
Investigators later obtained additional information and reviewed video footage, which led to a wanted poster being issued for Ferguson. He was subsequently located and detained later that same night, at approximately 9:23 p.m.
Police also reported that a formal statement was later recorded from Logan at the KHMH, where he positively identified Ferguson as the shooter.
During police questioning, Ferguson denied any involvement in the attack.
Because of the serious nature of the offenses, bail was denied at the Magistrate’s Court, and Ferguson was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until June 15, 2026.
In a related note, court records show that Logan was convicted in January 2026 for causing harm to his aunt. He was also ordered to serve additional time for prior convictions involving possession of a pipe and two traffic offenses, amounting to a total sentence of three months and two weeks imprisonment but it appears he was released from prison early.
