By Breaking Belize News Staff: Thirty-one-year-old Akeem Ferguson will remain behind bars after being denied bail for a third time in connection with the April shooting and stabbing of Ladyville resident Lionel Logan.

Ferguson, who has been on remand at the Belize Central Prison for more than four months, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where the court considered whether he should be granted bail after spending more than 90 days on remand.

Ferguson questioned why he remained incarcerated while his co-accused, 21-year-old Brandon Christian Villamil, had been granted bail by the High Court.

The Magistrate requested the brief facts of the case before making a decision. According to the allegations, Logan told police that he was attacked by two men, with one stabbing him in the lower back and another shooting him. Logan allegedly identified Ferguson as the man who shot him.

After considering those allegations and the fact that Ferguson had already been denied bail twice by separate High Court judges, the Magistrate declined to grant him bail.

The court, however, informed Ferguson that the prosecution has a deadline to provide disclosure and that bail could be reconsidered if the prosecution fails to meet that deadline.

Ferguson was remanded until October 7, 2026, when he and Villamil are expected to return to court.

Ferguson and Villamil are jointly charged with attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm and dangerous harm upon Lionel Nigel Logan following an incident on April 11, 2026.

Police say that at around 9:05 p.m. that night, officers responded to Henry Street, behind Delmart Hardware Store on Perez Road in Ladyville, where they found the 30-year-old Logan lying on a cement verandah with an apparent gunshot wound and stab wound to his lower back.

Investigators allege Logan had been approached by two men before an altercation broke out. Police say Logan identified Ferguson at the scene and later gave a statement identifying him as the alleged shooter.

Ferguson was located and detained later that night. Police say he denied shooting Logan during an interview.

He was arraigned on April 14, 2026. Ferguson was subsequently denied bail by High Court Justice Nigel Pilgrim and again on July 17 by Justice Candace Nanton.

Villamil, meanwhile, was later granted bail by the High Court.
