By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 56-year-old Belize City man is back behind bars after pleading guilty to possession of a utensil used for smoking a controlled drug.
Horace Cadle, a common labourer of Taylor’s Alley, appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Neeshad Mohammed in Court #5, where he was read a single charge of possession of a utensil, namely a 3-inch aluminum pipe used for smoking crack cocaine.
Cadle pleaded guilty to the charge. He was fined $350 plus a $5 cost of court, which he must pay by September 30, 2026. In default, he will serve three months in prison.
However, Cadle was unable to avoid prison after the court found that he still owed $155.09 from a previous similar conviction dating back to 2025. When he could not pay the outstanding amount forthwith, a warrant was prepared, and he was escorted to the Belize Central Prison.
According to police, on Sunday, June 14, officers were on foot patrol in Taylor’s Alley when they saw Cadle acting suspiciously. Police say an officer shone a light in his direction and saw him throw an object toward a bungalow house. A search of the area led to the discovery of the aluminum pipe.
In mitigation, Cadle admitted that he has a drug problem and said he has been spending his hard-earned money on drugs. He asked to be sent to a rehabilitation center, saying he wanted help.
Magistrate Mohammed advised him to seek assistance through the ENDA Program, noting that the other available rehabilitation option is through the Kolbe Foundation at the prison.
