Aaron Mai declares Mayoral candidacy for San Ignacio and Santa Elena

By Zoila Palma:  Councillor Aaron Mai has officially declared his candidacy for Mayor of San Ignacio and Santa Elena Towns.

Mai has served as a councillor since March 2021.

After the 2024 municipal elections, he gained recognition as the lone PUP representative remaining on the San Ignacio/Santa Elena Town Council after the United Democratic Party (UDP) won the other 6 seats and the Mayoral seat.

Mai, a renowned educator has led several successful community initiatives and continues to advocate for community development.

Most recently, Mai spearheaded a picnic table drive to provide schools in the Twin Towns with much-needed picnic tables, an initiative that was warmly welcomed and supported by local businesses.

“An educator by trade and a public servant by heart, Aaron is focused on empowering our youth, modernizing our local economy, and leading our Twin Towns with integrity. Let’s move forward, together,” his social media bio said.

 Mai will challenge four-term Mayor Earl Trapp in the 2027 elections.
