By Zoila Palma: PUP mayoral candidate Aaron Mai is calling for unity among residents of Santa Elena and San Ignacio following Saturday’s PUP convention, acknowledging disappointment over Santa Elena not securing any councillor seats while emphasizing the historic significance of his mayoral candidacy.
Mai said he understands the concerns surrounding the convention results but urged residents to look beyond the outcome and recognize that Santa Elena has produced a mayoral candidate for the first time in 35 years.
“I also want us to recognize something historic: for the first time in thirty-five years, Santa Elena has produced a Mayoral candidate,” Mai stated.
The PUP mayoral candidate stressed that his campaign should not be viewed as a competition between the two communities, but rather as a choice about leadership and the future direction of the Twin Towns.
“This campaign is not about Santa Elena versus San Ignacio. It is not about one community against the other. It is about leadership,” he said.
Mai pledged that, if elected, he would serve residents of both Santa Elena and San Ignacio equally, promising fairness, respect and dedication. “Every resident will matter. Every neighborhood will matter. Every voice will matter,” he said.
Mai further urged residents to seize what he described as an opportunity to make history for both communities. He said he believes that by working together, Santa Elena and San Ignacio can build a stronger and brighter future for all residents.
