By Hugh O’Brien: Tasheena Bowden, better known as DJ  Tash, joined Grammy Award winning artist Shyne Barrow as they proudly represented Belize at the 2026 Caribbean Music Awards which was held at the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

The award ceremony, which is only in its fourth year, brought together artists, DJs, producers and music industry professionals from across the Caribbean, creating a platform to recognize the region’s diverse musical talent and cultural contributions. The event is normally held in New York but made history this year by being hosted for the first time in the Caribbean.

For DJ Tash, the occasion represented more than a red-carpet appearance, it was a celebration of Belizean talent on the Caribbean stage. It was also the second consecutive year that she was nominated for Female DJ of the Year; last year, she became the first female Belizean to be nominated for this category by the Caribbean Music Awards (CMA). According to the CMA, the Female DJ of the year award celebrates outstanding achievements in music mixing, electrifying performances, and the ability to connect with audiences worldwide.

DJ Tash is well known for championing Belizean sounds and artists and her participation as a nominee at the 2026 Caribbean Music Awards highlighted the increasingly international reach of Belizean music. From punta and soca to dancehall, reggae and contemporary Caribbean sounds, to other national combinations, Belize continues to contribute its own distinctive voice to the region’s growing musical landscape. As a pioneering DJ, Tasheena ‘DJ Tash’ Bowden is being recognized for helping Belize in this effort.

Breaking Belize News (BBN) could not confirm who won the Female DJ of the Year Award as the full list of winners have not yet been released by the CMA organization.

As she left Belize to participate in the CMA in Trinidad, TJ Tash wrote “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

She was also grateful stating “From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who voted, shared, supported, prayed, and believed in me throughout this journey. No matter what the outcome is, win, lose, or draw, I proudly represented my country, and that alone is an honor I’ll always cherish.”

She expressed a special thank you to her sponsors, namely the Belize Tourism Board, Cordel Hyde, Kareem Musa and Holistica Belize, for making the journey possible.

BBN joins Belizeans at home and abroad in congratulating DJ Tash on being nominated two (2) years in a row as the Female DJ of the Year.

And in closing remember that DJ Tash is in high demand, oftentimes being fully booked out for months, so be sure to contact her early to secure her masterful DJ services.
