By Nancy Marin: The Government Is Gambling with National Stability
We are witnessing the collapse of an economic and social order built on a fragile and unjust pyramid — a structure that has long benefitted a few political elites at the top, while crushing the very foundation that supports our nation: the working class.
This Government, unwavering in its pursuit of a top-heavy, elitist economic ideology, is bringing our country to the brink.
The political class continues to hoard the nation’s assets, control key contracts, and monopolize trade opportunities, while our workers — the backbone of our society — are left struggling, weakened under the unbearable weight of institutional greed.
Perhaps nowhere is this more blatant — and dangerous — than in the treatment of our military.
After years of underpaying public servants and leaving our armed forces in shameful conditions, this Government now seeks to cut the already meager salaries of our soldiers. Let that be heard clearly: they intend to pay our military even less.
This isn’t just dishonorable — it is dangerous.
It is common knowledge that ministers have creamed off the top of military budgets through sham procurement contracts, some even targeting the very food meant for our soldiers. This is not only corruption; it is betrayal. And now, to turn around and reduce their pay? That is a direct provocation.
Such reckless policies have sparked military coups and civil unrest in our neighboring countries. We should not be so naive as to believe we are immune.
The Belize People’s Front issues this warning, not as a threat, but as a sobering reality: undermining the integrity and welfare of your armed forces is a direct threat to national security. It is an act of sabotage — against the very institution sworn to protect us.
This Government must reverse course immediately. The people will not tolerate a leadership that robs the nation to enrich itself. We demand:
A full audit and halt of corrupt military procurement practices.
An immediate review and raise of military and public sector wages.
An end to asset and contract monopolization by political elites.
A national economic restructuring that lifts the working class — not burdens them.
This is a critical moment in our history. Let it not be remembered as the time our Government chose greed over stability, and arrogance over accountability.
The people are watching. The military is watching. The world is watching.
