A Holiday Message from the National Commander of Community Policing Howell Gillett
As we come together this holiday season to celebrate the spirit of giving, reflection, and hope, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to each of you for your unwavering dedication to building safer, stronger, and more connected communities. Your efforts this year have been nothing short of remarkable and have truly embodied what it means to care for one another.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once asked, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” Every day, through your tireless service and commitment, you answer this question in ways that inspire and uplift. Whether by bridging the gap between law enforcement and the neighbourhoods we serve, fostering trust, or building relationships rooted in respect and compassion, you have been a cornerstone of progress and unity.
The holiday season brings joy, but it can also be a time of challenge for many. Your acts of kindness—through initiatives like food drives, scholarships, the cadet program, Positive Engagement and Civic Education (PEACE), the Police Crime Prevention and Education Program, and cleanup campaigns—have brought hope and light to those who need it most. Even the simplest gestures, like offering a listening ear, can leave a lasting impact.
Mother Teresa’s words, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love,” remind us that it’s often the small, thoughtful actions that make the greatest difference. This year, your collective efforts have been a testament to this truth.
As we celebrate Christmas and prepare for a new year, let us carry forward our shared mission to create communities where safety, harmony, and mutual respect thrive. Let this season renew our spirits and inspire us to continue building a future grounded in hope and unity.
Thank you for your dedication, compassion, and service. May you and your loved ones enjoy a joyful Christmas and a New Year filled with peace, renewal, and boundless possibilities.
