A golden Sunday before Monday turns wet again

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The weekend closes exactly as forecast, under mainly fair skies with sunshine and the familiar 95-degree inland heat, but the reprieve is short: showers and thunderstorms build back across the country from late Monday morning, with periods of rain over most areas, especially the coast, by Monday night.

According to the National Meteorological Service, mainly fair weather conditions prevail. Skies will be sunny with a few cloudy spells today and partly cloudy tonight. Showers or thunderstorms will be isolated, with a low chance of a few more over southern and some coastal areas later this morning or early afternoon.

Temperatures along the coast will reach a high of 89 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) and a low of 81 (27 Celsius). Inland areas will be the hottest, climbing to 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 Celsius) before dropping to 74 (23 Celsius). In the hills, expect a high of 83 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius) and a low of 68 (20 Celsius). With the mercury back at 95, the Sunday rules apply: water close, shade often.

At sea, conditions run choppy, with east to northeast winds of 5 to 15 knots and waves of 3 to 5 feet, workable water for the weekend’s final runs with the usual care on smaller craft.

On the tropical front, the calm holds. Tropical cyclone formation is not expected over the region during the next 48 hours.

Looking ahead to Monday and Monday night, skies turn cloudy at times, with showers and thunderstorms isolated at first, then gradually increasing around the country from late Monday morning or afternoon. Some showers, thunderstorms, and periods of rain are possible over most areas, especially the coast, Monday night, a forecast worth watching for anyone with Tuesday plans in Belmopan or Belize City.

Today’s low tides are at 6:34 AM and 6:44 PM, with a high tide at 12:29 PM and another high at 12:36 AM tomorrow. The sun rose at 5:35 AM and will set at 6:17 PM. The forecast was issued by forecaster Tareek Matthews.
