By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police are investigating a shooting at a residence in the Maya Mopan area of Belmopan believed to be associated with well-known street figure Ronlee Petillo, who was left paralyzed following a deadly shooting in March 2025.
The latest incident occurred shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28, when an unidentified gunman reportedly approached the residence, knocked on the door and identified himself as a police officer.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith, several individuals were inside the home when the man demanded that the door be opened. When the occupants refused, the house came under gunfire, resulting in injuries to 19-year-old Marcella Arzu.
Arzu was transported for medical attention and is listed in stable condition.
During Wednesday’s police briefing, Smith revealed that investigators do not believe Arzu was the intended target, but rather another individual residing at the property.
When questioned directly about whether the suspected target was Ronlee Petillo, Smith declined to confirm the information. She also refused to confirm whether the individual in question was paralyzed and uses a wheelchair.
Petillo, who has been associated with Belize City’s George Street gang, survived a deadly shooting along the Philip Goldson Highway in March 2025. The attack claimed the life of Joseph Lee Garcia and left several others injured.
Among the survivors was Shemar Faber, who subsequently died from his injuries in October 2025. At the time, BBN reported that Petillo had been left paraplegic as a result of the March shooting.
In the latest incident, police have identified two vehicles of interest through footage obtained from the Public Safety Monitoring Unit and are pursuing those leads as part of their investigation.
Smith also confirmed that police operations observed at the Maya Mopan residence following the shooting were connected to the ongoing investigation.
Police have not established a motive or officially identified the intended target.
