By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 24-year-old Ladyville man who admitted attacking his own brother with a pint bottle while drunk is out on bail pending sentencing, as the Chief Magistrate has ordered intervention from the Community Rehabilitation Department after he acknowledged having a drinking problem.

Bryan Salvatierra, a gas vendor from Ladyville, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault upon his brother, Henry Salvatierra.

According to the court facts, Henry reported that on September 28 he was lying on a sofa at home when Bryan allegedly approached him aggressively, insulted him and threatened to stab him.

Their mother reportedly intervened and separated the brothers, after which Henry called 911. Before police arrived, Bryan allegedly returned with a bottle and again threatened his brother.

When the Chief Magistrate asked Bryan what had caused the confrontation, he reportedly replied, “nothing,” before acknowledging that he had been drinking.

The court was also told that the incident was not the first time Bryan had behaved aggressively while intoxicated.

Because aggravated assault carries the possibility of a substantial prison term, the Chief Magistrate ordered a pre-sentencing report through the Community Rehabilitation Department before determining his punishment.

A social worker is expected to interview Bryan, his brother and other relatives, including their mother, as part of the assessment. The court indicated that the report could help determine whether rehabilitation or other intervention may be appropriate before sentencing.

Salvatierra was granted bail of $3,000 with one surety in the same amount. He must report to the Ladyville Police Station every Wednesday and remain at least 100 feet away from his brother and any prosecution witnesses.

He is scheduled to return to court on October 26, 2026.
