By Breaking Belize News Staff: Belizeans are remembering the life and legacy of the Right Honourable George Cadle Price as the country observes National Service Day and the 15th anniversary of his passing.
A wreath laying ceremony was held at Price’s final resting place at Lord’s Ridge Cemetery in Belize City as part of the official programme of events.
Opposition Leader Tracy Taegar Panton, who attended the ceremony, said the occasion was one of solemn remembrance of the former Prime Minister’s life and contribution to Belize.
Official wreaths were laid on behalf of the Governor General, Prime Minister, Chief Justice, Leader of the Opposition, Mayor of Belize City, National Celebrations Commission and the Price family.
Price served as Belize’s first Prime Minister following Independence in 1981 and is widely recognized as the Father of the Nation.
Panton used the occasion to call for renewed commitment to values she associated with Price, including humility, service and nation building.
The remembrance comes as Belize prepares to celebrate its 45th anniversary of Independence on Monday, September 21.
