By Zoila Palma:  The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) hosted the Concacaf Bigger Game Festival on September 15, bringing together 120 children from nine schools across Belize City, Belmopan and Cayo for a day focused on football, learning, friendship and fun.

The event formed part of Concacaf’s Bigger Game initiative, which uses football to support children’s education and social development.

The festival officially opened with remarks from FFB President Sergio Chuc. FFB General Secretary Ian Jones, representatives from Concacaf and the Ministry of Education, and members of the Belize Senior Men’s National Team were also present for the event.

The national team players joined the children on the field, interacting with them and participating in football activities. Their involvement provided the young participants with an opportunity to engage directly with national players while creating memorable experiences beyond the traditional football setting.

The Bigger Game programme goes beyond developing football skills, promoting values such as teamwork, respect, confidence, resilience, discipline, inclusion and safe participation. Tuesday’s festival marked the culmination of 10 weeks of sessions during which teachers conducted football activities with groups of approximately 20 to 25 children at their respective schools, allowing participants to put the programme’s lessons into practice.

The FFB thanked Concacaf, the Ministry of Education, participating schools, teachers, coaches, volunteers and the Belize Senior Men’s National Team for contributing to the festival.

FFB said the initiative is helping expand access to football while using the sport to encourage confident, responsible and community-minded young people.
