By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 29-year-old farmer from Grace Bank Village is out on bail after being arraigned on five criminal charges stemming from an alleged confrontation with a female police officer at a supermarket in Sandhill.

Alexander Eddison Dawson appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with aggravated assault upon a police officer, escaping from lawful custody, resisting arrest, harm, and using insulting words to a police officer.

The charges relate to an incident on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at FA Supermarket in Sandhill and allegedly involve a female police constable.

Dawson pleaded not guilty to all five charges.

The prosecution strongly objected to bail, arguing that the officer had been working alone at the supermarket when the alleged incident occurred. The prosecutor also raised concerns that Dawson and the complainant live in the same area and that he could potentially interfere with her or reoffend while on bail.

Senior Magistrate Dennison considered the objections but granted Dawson bail in the sum of $4,000, along with two sureties of $2,000 each.

As a condition of his bail, Dawson was warned not to be arrested and charged with any additional offences while the matter is before the court, or his bail could be revoked.

He was able to post bail later that day and is scheduled to return to court on November 2, 2026.
