By Zoila Palma:  For many Belizean families, the rising cost of living is no longer simply an economic concern—it is a daily struggle.

As the prices of food, fuel, utilities and other essentials continue to climb, households are being forced to stretch their incomes further, with single-parent families facing some of the greatest pressure as they juggle rent, groceries, bills and the needs of their children.

For a single parent preparing children for the new school year, the financial burden can be especially overwhelming.

School uniforms, shoes, books, supplies, transportation, lunch money and school fees can quickly add up, even before regular household expenses are considered.

A parent earning a modest salary may find that a significant portion of their monthly income is consumed by simply getting their children ready for school, leaving little room for emergencies or savings.

The pressure continues long after the first day of school.

Families must find money for groceries, electricity, water, internet, transportation and other necessities while also covering unexpected expenses.

For parents raising children alone, there is often no second income to fall back on when prices increase or a child needs medical care, school assistance or other support.

Even working families can find themselves living from paycheck to paycheck as everyday expenses take up an increasing share of their earnings.

Many families feel financially trapped when the cost of food, fuel, housing and education rises at a faster pace. For many parents, the challenge is no longer about affording luxuries, but about ensuring that their children have enough food, proper school supplies and a stable home.

For thousands of families, the goal is simple: to work hard, pay their bills and give their children a better future without constantly having to choose which necessity they can afford.
