By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 58 year old technician of San Lorenzo Road has been charged with driving under the influence following a crash on Otro Benque Road on Sunday evening.
Police responded to the scene around 7:45pm and found a blue 2010 Ford Escape parked on the right shoulder of the road with minor damage to its front right bumper, fender and wheel.
About 50 feet away was a black Mazda B2500 pickup that had collided with a wooden BEL lamp post. The pickup sustained extensive damage to its front right side and passenger side, and its right front wheel was found some 25 feet from the vehicle. The post was left slightly tilted but undamaged.
Initial investigation revealed the pickup driver was travelling from Orange Walk Town toward San Lorenzo Housing Site when he struck the parked Ford Escape, lost control and crashed into the lamp post.
No one was injured.
Police detected the aroma of alcohol on the driver’s breath at the scene. He was detained and later provided a urine sample at the station.
Oswaldo Vasquez was charged with driving under the influence and driving without due care and attention. He was granted police bail of $600.
