By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 50 year old cowboy of Indian Church Village has been charged with harm and damage to property following an altercation at a village restaurant.
According to the report, a 45 year old boat captain went to the restaurant on Friday and ordered a beer at the bar. As the bartender handed it to him, the bottle fell and broke.
A man at the restaurant shouted that he had to pay for it. The complainant responded that he never touched the beer and would not pay.
He told police a man he has known for over twenty years then jumped up from a table, grabbed him by the throat with both hands and began choking him. Several patrons tried to intervene without success.
He was then pushed to the ground, hitting his head, before the man climbed on top of him and choked him a second time. Patrons managed to pull the man off.
A pair of shades valued at $600 hanging around the complainant’s neck was broken in half during the attack.
Santiago Escalante was arrested and charged on Tuesday. He chose to remain silent.
