By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 35 year old labourer of Yo Creek Village has been charged after a company vehicle and thousands of dollars in sales money went missing in Orange Walk.
Luis Javier Cordova was formally arrested and charged with theft of $38,000 in different denominations and taking of conveyance on August 11.
Police say Cordova reported for duty at a company located at Fort Carnes Market on the morning of August 4. He was assigned to conduct sales within Orange Walk Town and took the keys to a grey 2006 Nissan Frontier four door pickup valued at $20,000.
By 6:30 that evening, the company’s supervisor was told that neither the vehicle nor the cash collected had been returned.
Border records later showed that Cordova had left Belize through the northern border that same day and crossed into Mexico.
The supervisor reported that company vehicles are for business use only, must be returned by 5pm unless otherwise authorised, and are not to be used for personal purposes.
Cordova was detained on August 9 and the pickup was impounded. He was cautioned and remained silent.
