By Breaking Belize News Staff: Businessman Alexander Underwood has been convicted of drug trafficking after pleading guilty to possession of 15.2 grams of crack cocaine with intent to supply.

Underwood, 36, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where he pleaded guilty to a single charge of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.

Despite the trafficking conviction, Underwood avoided prison and was instead fined $1,205, which he must pay by November 30, 2026. Failure to pay the fine will result in six months’ imprisonment.

The charge followed a police operation on Thursday evening, August 13, after members of the Gang Intelligence Investigation Unit Strike Team reportedly received information about a green Toyota Sienna suspected of transporting drugs and an illegal firearm from the Fabers Road area toward Central American Boulevard.

Police intercepted the vehicle as it headed into Fabers Road Extension at around 6:35 p.m. Underwood and another man reportedly exited the van and were informed that they and the vehicle would be searched.

Nothing illegal was reportedly found inside the vehicle. However, during a search of Underwood, an officer allegedly felt a hard object around his pants waist and recovered a small transparent plastic bag containing a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine.

Underwood was taken to the Queen Street Police Station, where the substance was weighed and recorded at 15.2 grams.

He subsequently pleaded guilty to the trafficking charge and received the non-custodial sentence.
