By Zoila Palma: More than 180,000 utility customers across Hawaii remained without electricity on Sunday after Hurricane Lala brought strong winds and heavy rainfall to the islands before weakening into a tropical storm.
According to PowerOutage.us, approximately 183,123 customers were without power as of 3:30 p.m. local time.
The storm caused widespread damage, with Hawaii Governor Josh Green reporting that officials had received reports of at least 100 homes being damaged.
Heavy rainfall triggered flash flooding and disrupted roads across parts of the state.
Hawaiian Electric said repair efforts were being hampered by fallen trees, hurricane-force winds and flooded roadways.
