By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 21-year-old Guinea Grass Village woman was pushed into a wall and punched at her in-laws’ home, then had her cell phone deliberately smashed when she chose to leave, according to a report now with police, who are seeking her common-law husband.

According to the Belize Police Department, the young housewife reported that on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m., she and her common-law husband of two years were visiting his mother’s house in the village. As evening set in, she decided to walk home, but returned shortly after for a baby bag she had left behind.

On her return, she reported, the man rose from a hammock on the verandah, approached her as she moved to enter the house, and pushed her hard, knocking her against the wall, then punched her with his left hand, causing pain. His own mother intervened, holding her son back to stop him from continuing the attack.

The woman went inside while the man and his mother argued outside. When she returned and asked for her cell phone so she could go home, he issued a warning: if she went home, he would break the phone. She chose to leave anyway, and he made good on the threat, breaking the phone, a white Samsung A16 valued at $435, its entire screen shattered. She walked home, she told police, to avoid further trouble.

The daylight conditions were clear, she stated, and she has known the man for two years. She requested court action.

A doctor certified her injury as harm, the damaged phone was photographed by scenes of crime personnel, and a statement was recorded. A man has been listed as wanted in connection with the matter. As he has not been detained or charged, no names are being published.

The report marks the third domestic violence matter reported from Guinea Grass Village in recent weeks. To anyone facing violence at home, help is available through the police and trusted support services, and reporting, as this young mother did, is the step that sets protection in motion.
